Sweet Pea Restaurant

Last Tuesday, I went out to dinner with my coworkers and some colleagues from Boston (Abby and Tim). We met around 6PM at the Venice Piazza in McKinley Hill (very close to where we hold office). My boss chose Sweet Pea to be the venue of our dinner. Sweet Pea "A Chef's Kitchen" is an unassuming cozy restaurant that serves American comfort food among others. You know, the kind of dining place that is painted in mute yellow, with quirky pieces in open cupboards, designed like a 70's diner with some modern touches here and there.  Vintage frames adorn one side of the wall and chairs were old school designed too.

We ordered quiet a few but I only managed to take a picture of my side of the table (there were 3 of us). We occupied 4 tables so imagine the amount of food that I was not able to photograph. I was not also able to photograph the appetizers that they ordered ahead because I came a few minutes late. It's all good though. I came just in time when we were asked to order for the main dish already. The thing is, I was not hungry because it wasn't my usual time to eat anything yet so I ordered just the Hawaiian Potato Salad which was utterly delicious. Hmmmmm, I can still almost taste the freshness of the salad in my mouth.

Pasta in Cream Sauce with Prawns Php295 (around US$6.80)

Taquitos  Php195 (around US$4.50)

Sukiyaki Steak and Prawn Kebab Php395 (around US$9.20)

Hawaiian Potato Salad Php150 (around US$3.50)

Strawberry Shake (Produce fresh from Baguio) and the Dessert List

There were other orders for our table but I did not note them down anymore. I was just concentrating on the people around me and the food within arms length.

Pouring over the "giant" menu made me realize though that Sweet Pea is just isn't an American comfort food restaurant because it has kebab, hainanese chicken, Filipino breakfast meals among others. I think the owners envisioned a fusion restaurant when they put it up.

Banana Split Php245 (around US$5.70)

Dulce de Leche Php170 (around US$3.95)

Mango Bravo Php165 (around US$3.80)

The restaurant flyers being distributed advertises that they have meals on the go now at only Php100 (around US$2.30). There are currently 10 dishes available for this promotion: Fish Fillet Teriyaki with Bean Sprouts, Chicken  ala Pobre, Salisbury Steak, Pork Menudo with Fried Banana, Grilled Liempo with Bean Sprouts, Country Fried Chicken with Cole Slaw, Egg Sandwich with Crispy Potato Chips, Steamed Stuffed Tilapia, Lasagna with Garlic Toast and Mini-Pork BBQ with Atchara (Pickled Papaya).

One of the vintage poster on the wall.

The vintage-inspired wall. Looks like a typical American diner to me. What do you think?

A complete display of kitchen utensils and implements on a magnetized board (if I'm not mistaken).

VERDICT
Service: 4 out of 5
Food: 4 out of 5
Ambiance: 4 out of 5

Would I go back? Definitely! :-) They have an extensive menu and I feel like I could do more justice to the establishment if I try more of what they offer. I enjoyed my dinner and I would recommend you to visit the establishment. Please order the Hawaiian Potato Salad as it's a sure winner.
