Over the weekend, I went out to hunt for a pink external hard drive and I was not successful. Instead, I went home with a package with something slim and stylish inside. I bought the newest 1TB external hard drive from Seagate's Backup Plus line. I got it for Php5500.

I immediately backed up 5-years worth of files as soon as I opened the box and I was floored. I was super impressed to say the least. It took me only a good 2 hours to back-up around 250GB of documents, pictures and videos among others plus my work files and 3 4GB thumb drives. Yes, you read it right. That was the very first time that I cared to back up my files. I know, I know! I always preach about the importance of backing up your data but never got to do it because I always think that my laptop will never give up on me no matter how tattered it looks like now. But last weekend, my confidence turned into a lingering doubt that this computer can still last until the end of the month. So, yeah I trooped to the mall and scouted for an external hard drive. For the purchase, I got a year of store warranty and also another year of cloud access after I registered my purchase online.

What is Backup Plus?

According to Digital Den, Backup Plus is Seagates's simple backup solution for your digital life on your computer and the cloud. So what makes Backup Plus different?

1. The new Seagate Dashboard provides a one-click backup process that is simple and efficient. Back up your data during your computer use with the click for a button or schedule a backup session for a set-and-forget solution to always keep your information protected without having the hassle of trying to remember the last time you preserved your data.

2. With the explosion of social networks, it’s important to have your memories accessible anywhere. Whether you live vicariously through Facebook or Flickr, if something ever happens to these networks, we’ve got you covered. You’re a few clicks away from downloading (or uploading) your entire photo library to your Backup Plus drive. And if you’re a video fan, you can upload your stored video content to YouTube just as easily.

3. The Backup Plus products flexible enough to work with multiple operating systems and connection technologies. After all, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” So regardless if you’re running Windows or MAC OS or connecting with a 2.0 USB or Thunderbolt, the Backup Plus drives will suit your storage needs.

After using it and installing the dashboard, I know I made an excellent buy! Here's how it looks beside a BlackBerry 9700 phone (for size comparison):
